Greg Chapman – Class of 2002

In 2002 Greg Chapman graduated from Duncraig Senior High School and went on to study a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Subiaco TAFE. After working in the industry for three years he decided to change to something completely different and moved into a sales position.

Fifteen years ago, Greg happened to fall into the world of Real Estate. After promoting a 2000-person scouting event for a scout’s group, he got networking and was offered a job in Real Estate Sales. He felt like the time had come for a change, and now here he is 15 years later.

Greg is not all work and no play and has a passion for community and since the age of 10, Greg has always been involved in the scouting movement and continued up until the age of 26. He took a short break but has stayed involved in the community and recently participated in Movember. One of his biggest achievements personally, and as part of his charity work, was raising $30,000 for Breast Cancer Research in 2013 by climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in a pink suit. This is a huge feat that to this day he continues to be extremely proud of.

Greg has lived in Perth all his life but has made the move from North to South of the river; living just out of Fremantle which he is loving. However, the move South at first made him feel like he needed to get his passport stamped!

Of his proudest achievements, besides his summit up Mt Kilimanjaro, is his two children, although he knows he can’t claim this one all by himself! When he’s not raising funds for a charity, he and his family love to go camping and he keeps his mechanical engineering skills in good use spending time in the shed building and fixing things, always tapping into the skills he first learned as a student at Duncraig SHS during Mechanical Workshop and Design and Technology all those years ago.

Greg has achieved so much since leaving Duncraig SHS in 2002 but he really does believe it is important to remember life is not about what you do for a job, or how much money you make, it is all about how you get there, who you become in the process and how many people you can help along the way.
