Gifted and Talented

Duncraig Senior High School is a leading choice for families seeking an exceptional Gifted and Talented education in Perth’s northern corridor. Since 2007, our Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Program has offered high-achieving students a rigorous and inspiring learning pathway. Entry is highly competitive, with students required to sit the ASET test and achieve a strong result to be offered a place—making Duncraig a destination school for families who want their child to Care Engage Excel alongside like-minded peers.

Students in Years 7-10 learn alongside curious and highly capable peers through a highly differentiated and enriched curriculum in the subjects of Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities and Social Science. These teaching programs are bespoke, and tailored to the students’ needs and interests, delivered by teachers with expertise in gifted education. Learning is further enhanced through connections to real-world applications with a broad range of incursions, excursions, expert workshops, and guest speakers.

In Years 11 and 12, gifted students continue to be supported through academic monitoring, pastoral care, and targeted extension opportunities. During Years 11 and 12, cohorts are brought back together through shared experiences that encourage them to re-engage with one another, broaden their perspectives and grow as a community of learners. These opportunities include Legacy lunches, guest speakers, and other enrichment experiences that help students explore future pathways, build confidence and remain challenged and inspired throughout their senior years.

The program enables gifted students to engage with their peers at a level of depth and complexity not typically available in a standard classroom setting. Through both academic and co-curricular experiences, students develop advanced subject knowledge, critical and creative thinking skills, and the personal capabilities required for success beyond school.

The selection process begins in Year 5, with testing conducted in Year 6 and placement commencing in Year 7. Limited vacancies may also be available for entry into Years 9, 10 and 11.

Entry Requirements

Entry into this program is only available through a rigorous testing process, and students who are successful in gaining a place in this program do not need to reside within our intake area.
