Lisa Whitmore – Class of 1993
Lisa Whitmore is an inspiring example of success after graduating from Duncraig Senior High School in 1993. She has gone on to achieve a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Curtin University and an Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine from Torrens University.
Lisa is a community Pharmacist and the owner of City Beach Pharmacy. She is also an examiner of students at UWA, Curtin and AHPRA, and recently completed a research project at Curtin University. When asked why she chose this career path, Lisa said that from the moment she started studying Pharmacy she loved it. She enjoys the science but particularly the interaction with customers and building longstanding relationships with them. Additionally, she enjoys the business management and ownership opportunities that a career in Pharmacy has provided.
Lisa is a passionate traveler and has visited many countries. She is also an avid swimmer and is a member of a surf lifesaving club. She currently enjoys coaching Nippers and Youth competitors at North Cottesloe Surf Club.
Lisa has also done her fair share of community work. She has had various volunteer roles in Surf Lifesaving for many years. In 2021/22, she worked on a project for Curtin University in conjunction with Lifeline and PVAW (Preventing Violence Against Women). She developed a training program for Pharmacists to recognize and respond to people experiencing or at risk of experiencing family and domestic violence.
When asked about her greatest achievement, Lisa said that her three children Ashley, Max and Ned are by far the most wonderful part of her life. For her career, she is very proud of her business and the relationships she has formed with her staff and customers over the years. Going through the experience of her business being destroyed by fire in 2014 was difficult, but the support she was offered showed her just how valued she is by her local community.
Recently, Lisa and her classmates celebrated their 30-year school reunion at the Subiaco Hotel. She said it was a wonderful chance to reminisce and talk through their time at school with more perspective as they had grown older and hopefully wiser! It was evident that they had developed lifelong friendships and their time at Duncraig SHS was looked back on fondly with great stories, many laughs and an education that has allowed them to follow their dreams.
Lisa Whitmore is a great example of resilience and determination, and a reminder of how much can be achieved after graduating from school.
