This course enables students to develop their interests and skills through the design, production and management of food-related tasks. They develop knowledge of the sensory, physical, chemical and functional properties of food, learnt both through theory and practice, and can apply these in practical situations.
Students investigate food issues and advertising strategies used to promote food products. They examine influences on the supply of food for the world’s population and explore issues associated with food security, equity and sustainability. They will understand further nutrition concepts, and recognise different macro and micronutrients and their role in the body. Students will have a greater understanding of the laws and regulations in regard to food labelling and food handling.
